photo of Jennifer Thomson.jpg

Jennifer trained at Edinburgh College of Art from 1987-1992 where she won various prizes and awards. She then taught Art at Madras College, St Andrews, before giving up teaching to follow her heart and paint full time.

Jennifer draws inspiration from her daily family life and the people and places around her. Her two children (aged 7 and 9) can often be spotted in her compositions. Jennifer’s paintings depict days out, holidays and memories of fond times spent in her hometown of Edinburgh and her favourite holiday spots in the East Neuk of Fife. The spirit of her work is positive, happy and fun. The Naïve Artists, who often approach their paintings with the same enthusiasm for life, are an important influence in Jennifer’s work. This is an artist who loves to paint and aims to make others happy with her paintings too.

Jennifer has exhibited her paintings and limited edition prints in galleries such as The Torrance and Just Scottish Galleries in Edinburgh and The Jerdan gallery in Crail. She has at least one solo show every year in a venue either in Edinburgh or Fife. Her paintings are in the permanent collections of The City Arts Centre and The Royal Bank of Scotland. She has done commissions for organisations such as Scotrail, The Ladies Golf Union and Fife Coast and Countryside Trust, to name a few. Her cards are now sold in shops throughout Edinburgh including Jenners Department Store and The National Gallery of Scotland.

FURTHER INFORMATION
Nov1998-present Full time artist
Since giving up teaching in November 1998, I have been painting full time. I live and work in Edinburgh with my husband Ross, although I am currently inspired by the East Neuk of Fife having spent many a happy summer there. I combine painting with looking after my children Cameron and Sophie.
