This series of paintings of Newhaven, Leith, Port Seton and Eyemouth is very close to my heart. I painted this series when my Dad was alive, working as a Fish Merchant. I would go with him to the Fishmarket very early in the morning to observe and sketch this fascinating world. It was tough for these fisher folk working in a dark, cold, damp environment but there was a lot of passion, integrity and humour too which I hope I have captured in my paintings.
One of the paintings from this series was aquired by Art In Healthcare for their collection. Another two were purchased by Edinburgh Museums And Galleries and "The Fisherman's Choice, Newhaven" features in their current online exhibition “Life on the Forth”.
