A Colourful Game, St Andrews
This painting started life as a poster for a charity fun run around St Andrews. I was nearly finished the painting when I was told that the run had been cancelled and the poster wouldn’t be required. Rather than laying the painting aside to be forgotten about I decided to turn it into a scene of everyday life in St Andrews. You might notice that most of the figures going along the path beside the golf course look like they are in a hurry. That’s because for the purpose of the poster they were all running for charity. All I had to do was add a few accessories like dogs, a bike, a pram and some red student gowns and I’m sure no-one suspects anything!
You can’t spend time in St Andrews and not notice its obsession with golf. This scene shows four men putting on the eighteenth green of the Old Course right next to the Royal and Ancient Golf Club. Most golf fanatics from all over the world would be very pleased to be in their golf shoes. I was just pleased to be able to sketch them on this beautiful sunny day with lots happening on the beach including the kites which added a fantastic rainbow of colour in the sky.
