A Passing Shower, Victoria Street
Victoria Street is one of my most favourite streets in Edinburgh. I like the way it curves down and round to The Grassmarket and I love the contrast of the brightly coloured shops on the bottom with the dull coloured buildings on top. I have tried to echo this with the contrast between the dull drizzly day and the brightly coloured umbrellas. There is a contrast too between the businessman hailing a taxi and the piper in full highland dress providing the background music. A pigeon stands to attention next to him as if he is part of the act.
This is another Edinburgh Street that dramatically changes it’s character at night. During the day shoppers wander along the quaint row of shops selling everything from china cats to practical jokes and from a full range of exotic cheeses to a full range of household brushes. At night time it becomes a magnet for pub and nightclub goers and the whole atmosphere is completely different.
