Summer Starts Here, Elie
Catching this first glimpse of the sea as you arrive in Elie is such a special moment. At this point you can totally relax and start to enjoy your holiday. As the title of the painting says, summer starts here. This is usually the time also when the children start to develop ‘Elie-itis’, a well know affliction in these parts, causing over-excited, out of control boys and girls. I think it’s something in the air or maybe the water…or maybe the ice cream and sweets!
In this painting I included many popular Elie activities such as cycling, tennis, dog walking, playing golf, sailing, kite flying and my children’s favourite, riding on the banana boat. In the foreground on the left, a family has arrived with their jam-packed car. A beach ball and flipper spill onto the road. It looks as though the family on bikes have just been to the deli to buy lunch. I tried to give the seagulls in the sky a relaxed holiday feel too, as if they are just going with the flow. Most of all, I enjoyed painting the numerous road signs in this scene. I couldn’t resist including the little yellow AA sign pointing towards my summer exhibition. There are so many great places to visit nearby and I have painted most of them!
