The October Break
Elie is lovely at any time of year. I thought I’d do this painting just to show how busy and fun this East Neuk beach can be, even in the colder months. Mind you, when we are unlucky with the weather, sometimes a summer’s day in Elie can look much like this! The break from school in October means that for a short spell children are back on the beach re-living some of their summer adventures.
In the foreground, I am snuggled up beside my husband with our picnic rug wrapped around for extra warmth. We are watching our children play football with a friendly passing dog. Our own dog Brodie, tied to a windbreak just out of view, is trying his best to reach our jam sandwiches from our picnic. After a winter’s afternoon on the beach the best way to thaw out in Elie is with a special “Cocoa Tree” hot chocolate at The Pavilion – a worthy reward indeed!
